Scottish Food & Drink Gift Ideas 2024
As I write this guide it is December 2nd and the festive season is well underway.
I am a foodie at heart and I feel like that you can tell alot about a country through it's food and drink. I intend to also create a guide that showcases the best of Scottish artists in y next post, so look out for that.
If you're looking for a Scottish foodie themed gift that supports independent businesses here in Scotland then this is the guide for you.
This shortbread company hand makes all of their buttery shortbread in Edinburgh. They offer beautifully packaged biscuits, crackers and oat biscuits.
If you're looking for classic Scottish shortbread or something more unique to gift then check them out. If they are good enough to be stocked in Fortnum and Mason in London then they must be high quality!
This handcrafted Scottish gin from the Hebridean island of Rassay is zesty and dry. I know that there are many different gins out there and it can be overwhelming, however Rassay also offer beautiful packaged gift sets with gin glasses and tonics.
The London dry gin has ten botanicals that have been expertly crafted. Made with orange peel, rhubarb root and candied lemon. Their bottle design is a reflection of the island geology and fossils make for a beautiful centrepiece in any bar cart.
This independent chocolate company from the east coast of Scotland offers a great selection of hot chocolates, single-origin chocolates from hand-selected plantations and very special single malt liqueur chocolates.
Their Scottish sea salt and caramel hot chocolate looks very warming for this winter season!
You can order their products online, or they are stocked in cafes across Scotland.
If you're a whisky lover and looking for a relatively new and perhaps under the radar whisky then check out the Cabrach distillery.
Set in the Speyside region of Scotland, the Cabrach Distillery is a social enterprise and it's great to see the art of whisky making has returned to the area after 170 years.
As they are newly opened and whilst they are waiting for the whisky to mature they have created a special blend.
Currently they have a limited edition blend - “The Feering” which is a series of three blended malts, using single casks from distilleries surrounding The Cabrach. Each one carefully and expertly curated and has gentle floral, heathery tones and notes of honey.
You can purchase online, or in person at The Whisky Shop in Edinburgh.
Afternoon Tea Signet Library, Edinburgh
If you want to give a special foodie experience instead, look at Edinburgh’s Signet Library at the Colonnades for afternoon tea gift vouchers.
The Georgian era building creates a beautiful setting for a traditional afternoon tea experience. The Signet Library offer seasonal ingredients, home-baked breads to delectable savouries and decadent sweets, all beautifully presented on bespoke silver tea stands.
They have an extensive tea list, with unlimited tea and coffee, you can sample everything on offer at your leisure, and elevate your experience with a glass of champagne.
They also have vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free options too.
International best-selling author Coinneach MacLeod hails from the western isle of Lewis and has created a recipe book filled with Scottish flavours.
The book provides an insight into Scottish island life alongside some traditional recipes to follow. The photography is also outstanding and reading this book will make you want to travel to the Outer Hebrides.
It's not just about sweet bakes, the book also has heart-warming soups and pies, show-stopping desserts and cosy winter dishes.
You can purchase the book on amazon, however independent book shops such as Argonaut Books and Blackwells also carry this book.
The Edinburgh Honey company sells 100% raw & 100% natural honey and honey products (honeycomb, beeswax and bee pollen).
They offer a wide range of honey in varying sizes of jars. However, they have Scottish heather honey which comes from apiaries around Scotland. They also stock more unusual combinations such as cranachan, raspberry and whisky infused honey.
You can order online but they also have a physical store at 178 Easter Rd, Edinburgh.
Handcrafted in Scotland these hand cut slate boards and platters make an excellent addition to cheese night. They have a cute highland coo design, as well as the Scottish thistle or even a map of Scotland.
I came across their Etsy shop online and they ship from the Scottish borders.
All of their items are good safe and would make for a great gift alongside some Scottish regional cheeses.
